Freedom planet 2 trunks and mai9/5/2023 I don't like labeling places as tourist traps because people like experiencing different things, but I'd say this place feels very touristy and commercial to say the least. Websites talk a lot about the floating market, so I was like why not. we went to this floating market as part of a packaged group tour. There are several well placed snack and restroom options. if they see a cane, walking stick or slingshot they usually will leave you alone. usually don't fear you and can chase a person out of a cart. some are aggressive to snatch food or a purse out of your hands, will climb into carts looking for snacks. The carts are nice but the trolleys work well and you only need a cart to go to the big cat, guar, Australia section. easy to park, can ride several available trolleys or rent a electric golf cart for a fee about 500 baht and up depending on size and time 4 seats or 6 seats a couple hours or more. they are also upgrading a couple of the parking lots. this year traffic was down and there seemed to be less animals. feeding the elephants and giraffes is also popular and a good photo opportunity. the swimming with elephants is always popular and when busy people need to que up early for the next show. the set shows of the March of the penguins is constant and usually popular and can buy snack to feed them on stage. some visits are up to the animals, are they sleeping, eating, playing. I like it, always nice to get some open air and interact with animals. (As I learned after the fact after 9pm the price is double). Also, unless you want to walk in the jungle at night, you pretty much need to get back to the hotel before 10:30pm to take the shuttle. I also want to note that the location is nice, however if you are like us and want to explore the rest of the island it’s probably not the best place to stay as a lot of the good restaurants and markets are atleast 40 mins away. If you wanted to use AC or hot water you need to pay an additional charge. Other than that we found the room wasn’t cleaned well and the bed was uncomfortable (I could feel the springs in the mattress). Also note I was 16 weeks pregnant at the time… luckily we went to the neighbouring resort and they took us up right away. Meanwhile the shuttle truck was parked outside with no one in it and there was a sign saying it ran every hour. We asked if they could take us to the parking lot and the girl said they were fully booked for the next few hours. We never took the shuttle afterwards but tried taking it the day we were departing (since we had backpacks). After that we felt very uncomfortable and unsafe at the resort. We still put the money on the counter and another worker (who was the only nice one) brought us to our room since she stormed off. She then ripped up the bill and said “fine, you don’t need to pay anything” and stormed off. She all of a sudden started yelling at us (and her male coworker did too) saying it is 200 baht and the person messaging me wasn’t even there. My husband and I were talking very calmly and simply said we were misinformed. I showed her the message on my phone where I was told it was 100 baht per person. When we talk to the girl at reception she said it was 200 baht per person because it was past 9:00pm. We get there on time and take the shuttle to the hotel. (Also, it’s approx 40 min drive from the pier to their parking lot). It was 9pm so I asked if it was okay if we arrived between 10-11pm because we were waiting for our dinner. They told me that it cost 100 baht per person. I asked how much the shuttle service was from their parking lot to the hotel (you cannot drive the last 2 km unless you have a 4X4). When we arrived on the island I messaged the hotel on WhatsApp to let them know we arrived. Worst customer service we have ever experienced and we travel fairly frequently.
